AI answers are built from pages that are indexed, snippet-eligible, and crawlable. This free checker grades your domain against those gates in about a minute, so you know whether your site is even eligible to appear when buyers ask ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude, or Google's AI Overviews about your category. No signup, no install.
The grade and every check are free. You do not need an account to run it.
An AI visibility check tells you whether your website can show up in the answers AI assistants give. When someone asks a question, tools like Google's AI Overviews and AI Mode build a single answer by pulling from pages across the web, and ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, and Gemini do something similar. A brand that is not crawlable or not allowed to be quoted simply cannot be part of that answer.
There are two layers to it. The first is technical readiness: can the engines reach, read, and quote your pages at all? The second is answer-level presence: when the answer gets written, does it actually name you? This free checker measures the first layer, the eligibility gates. The full ClarAI analysis measures the second.
More buyers now read an AI answer before they ever reach a list of links. The answer names a short set of brands, and that short list is doing the work a page of search results used to do. If you are not in it, the buyer may never learn you exist.
Google has published how this works. AI Overviews and AI Mode run on the same Search index, using a technique it calls query fan-out: the system issues several related queries at once and pulls a wider set of pages into one generated answer. Eligibility for those features is the familiar foundation, indexed, snippet-eligible, and crawlable content. Optimizing for AI search, in Google's own words, is still SEO. That is good news: it means the gates are knowable and checkable, which is exactly what this tool does.

The checker composes cheap public probes into a single A to F grade. It reads your robots.txt and your homepage HTML, then scores nine checks. There are no AI calls and nothing hidden: every check comes back marked Pass, Warn, or Unknown, with a plain-language reason and, where relevant, how to fix it.
These carry the most weight in the score, because they are the binary gates on whether an AI answer can include you at all.
Whether snippet controls (noindex, nosnippet, max-snippet, or data-nosnippet) are stopping your pages from being quoted. This is the single biggest gate: AI Overviews can only quote text a page is allowed to snippet, so one restrictive directive can silence an otherwise healthy site.
Whether robots.txt lets Googlebot crawl the site. Google's AI Overviews and AI Mode source their pages through standard Googlebot, so blocking it removes the site from Google's AI answers, not just from classic Search.
Whether robots.txt allows the five major AI crawlers: GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, OAI-SearchBot, and Google-Extended. Blocking one means that assistant cannot read the site when it builds an answer. Google-Extended is a special case: it affects Gemini training, not AI Overviews, so blocking only that one is a policy choice rather than a visibility problem.
These do not gate you outright, but they shape how easily an engine can understand and quote your homepage.
Whether the homepage has both, the two fields AI engines lean on to summarize what a company does.
Whether the page has an H1 and clear H2 sections, so engines get quotable chunks instead of one undifferentiated block.
Whether the homepage publishes JSON-LD structured data, such as Organization and WebSite, which helps machines parse who you are.
Whether the page uses HTML5 landmarks (main, nav, header, footer). It is a directional agent-readiness signal, not a ranking factor.
Whether the site serves a plain-text or markdown version when a client asks for one. This is an emerging agent-readiness nicety that most sites skip today, so we report it honestly rather than penalize it.
Whether an llms.txt file is published. Honest note: Google ignores llms.txt, so we report it as an optional low-cost signal, never as something that changes your AI Overviews visibility.
Paste a domain and the grade comes back in about a minute. The score is weighted so that a blocked crawler or a nosnippet directive cannot be outvoted by cosmetic details, because those are the checks that actually decide inclusion. A check we cannot complete is marked Unknown and left out of the score rather than counted as a failure.
Every result is shareable at its own link, so you can send the report card to a colleague or a client without either of you needing an account.
We want to be straight about this. The free checker measures technical readiness. It tells you whether AI engines can reach, read, and quote your site. It does not tell you whether they currently name your brand in their answers, because that is a different question that takes real queries against real engines to answer.
ClarAI is new and pre-launch, so you will not find customer counts or testimonials on this page. What you will find is a tool that does exactly what it says, and a full product that measures the layer the checker cannot see.
The full analysis samples the real answers five AI engines, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude, and Google AI, give to your buyers' questions. It shows whether your brand is named, who gets recommended instead, and which pages earned the citation, with the sample size behind every number so you can trust it. It starts free with one brand project.
Yes. You paste a domain and get a letter grade with every individual check, for free, with no signup and nothing to install. There is no gated report and no paywalled score. The only thing that asks for an account is the full answer-level analysis, which is a separate, deeper product.
Technical readiness: whether AI engines can reach, read, and quote your site. It looks at crawler access, snippet controls, and the on-page signals engines rely on. It does not measure whether ChatGPT or Google's AI Overviews currently name your brand in their answers. That answer-level visibility is what the full ClarAI analysis measures.
The checks target the eligibility gates for the engines buyers actually use: Google AI Overviews and AI Mode (through standard Googlebot and snippet controls) plus the crawlers behind ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, and Google-Extended. Blocking one of those crawlers, or blocking snippets, is what keeps a site out of those answers.
No. Paste your domain and the grade comes back in about a minute. There is no tag to add, no plugin, and no account required for the grade.
The free checker tells you whether your site is technically eligible to appear in AI answers. The full ClarAI analysis goes further: it samples the real answers five AI engines give to your buyers' questions, shows whether your brand is named, who gets recommended instead, and which pages earned the citation. Readiness is the gate; the full analysis is the scoreboard.
No third-party tool has access to Google's internal ranking or AI systems, and ours does not claim to. Google has said as much publicly. The checker reads only public signals that any crawler can see: your robots.txt, your homepage HTML, and the snippet directives on it. Everything it reports, you can verify yourself.
When someone asks an AI assistant about your category, the answer names a short list of brands, and most buyers read that answer instead of clicking through ten links. If your site is not eligible to be crawled and quoted, you are not in the running for that list. The checker tells you whether the door is even open.
